Georgia Sheriff: Meth Mom Endangered BabyA Georgia woman under arrest on drug charges allowed her three children to live in a home while an active and dangerous methamphetamine lab operated, Georgia officials said Thursday.
One of the children is a 7-month-old baby boy whose room contained dangerous chemicals. The other children are ages 7 and 14.
The baby was treated and released from a Cartersville hospital. Authorities, however, said it may be too soon to tell if the chemicals caused any problems.
"Studies have shown that children whose immune systems have not been built up like an adult's immune system, they'll suffer a higher risk of damage to any internal part from this stuff," said Sheriff Clark Millsap.
The baby's mother, 35-year-old Marla Booth, and four other suspects were arrested when the Bartow County, Georgia Sheriff's Department Narcotics Squad and agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation raided a home Wednesday morning.
It was the second such raid at the home on Red Top Drive in as many weeks. During the first raid, the only person arrested was David Hobbs. Hobbs soon made bail and he was back in the home cooking methamphetamines, the Georgia sheriff said.
During both searches, agents said they found methamphetamines being cooked.
Georgia authorities also found two shotguns, a muzzle loader, a rifle, a semi-automatic pistol and a night-vision scope.
“We’re probably pretty positive it was to keep us from sneaking up on them in the dark. I’m pretty sure that is what they were going to use it for,” Millsap said.
The five suspects and the charges against them were released by the sheriff's department as follows:
Marla Arlene Booth, 35
- Trafficking in methamphetamines
- Possession of marijuana by ingestion
- Criminal intent to manufacture methamphetamines
- Possession of methamphetamines by ingestion
